Transfers between Manchester United and Chelsea have a mixed history, and the latest rumors surrounding Alejandro Garnacho are certainly sparking debate.
As reported by talkSPORT, Chelsea is interested in Alejandro Garnacho, who currently plays for Manchester United. The 20-year-old winger is said to be on the move from Old Trafford to Stamford Bridge.

Garnacho has expressed doubts about his future under manager Ruben Amorim, as he doesn’t seem to fit into the new 3-4-2-1 system. Previously, he was left out of the Manchester derby in December and is yet to score in his 14 appearances under the Portuguese coach, with eight of those matches being as a substitute.
Additionally, Napoli has shown interest in Garnacho, but the Chelsea connection is drawing attention. Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy commented on the situation, suggesting the club may need to sell players due to financial regulations.
“I think we’re looking at that situation where they have to sell due to financial rules. Garnacho could leave,” he shared on Inside Chelsea.
Cundy added, “I’m surprised that the Garnacho situation has emerged. He’s had a tough time, and Amorim’s tactics don’t seem to accommodate him effectively. A loan move could be a possibility to evaluate his potential. Chelsea’s interest makes sense, especially considering his previous success under Erik ten Hag.”
While Cundy is intrigued by Garnacho’s potential, fellow pundit Matisse Hofer is more skeptical. He articulated concerns over Garnacho’s decision-making, noting that despite his experience, he may not be ready to step up to the elite level required in the Premier League.
Hofer remarked, “I don’t think he’s an elite level dribbler. Our wingers face unique challenges, often lacking support from fullbacks, which can lead to isolated situations. I’m not convinced he has that special quality to excite fans like [Edin] Hazard did.”
Cundy acknowledged Hofer’s points but remained open to Garnacho joining Chelsea under the right conditions. “He’s somewhat like Anthony Gordon; I’ve seen enough to consider him, especially if he fits into our plans on the left wing,” he said.
However, Hofer concluded, “I’m not sure Garnacho significantly enhances Chelsea’s prospects. If the goal is to compete for the Premier League title, I don’t see him as a transformative signing.”
The financial aspect is also a concern, with Manchester United reportedly valuing Garnacho at £70 million. Napoli has made two attempts to sign him, but both offers were rejected, suggesting that Chelsea would have to pay a substantial fee.
Despite the challenges, Garnacho has shown promise with 23 goals and 14 assists in 118 games for Manchester United, along with earning eight international caps for Argentina, winners of both the World Cup and Copa America. His standout moment includes a stunning Puskas Award-winning overhead kick against Everton.
