In a tragic incident at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, police have identified the student responsible for Wednesday’s shooting that resulted in the death of Josselin Escalante, a 16-year-old girl, and left another classmate injured.

Metro Nashville police reported that the shooter, 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, fired upon Escalante and another student in the school cafeteria before taking his own life. This shocking event has raised concerns about school crimes in the area.

Images circulating on social media allegedly show Henderson with a small handgun, and another photo depicts the firearm partially visible in a backpack. Authorities have yet to confirm the authenticity of these images.

Witnesses stated that Henderson confronted a 16-year-old student in the cafeteria, leading to the shooting that struck Escalante. It remains unclear if Escalante was part of the initial dispute.

The other victim, a 17-year-old student grazed by a bullet, has since been released from the hospital.

As investigations continue, police have stated that a motive for the shooting is still unknown. “As to a motive, we’re looking into that,” said police Chief John Drake, as reported by The Tennessean. “There are some materials on the internet that we’re looking at that’s under investigation.”

In light of the incident, Metro Nashville Public Schools has decided to keep Antioch High School closed for the remainder of the week.
