The All Progressives Congress (APC) has labeled the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, as a “prophet of doom.”

Felix Morka, the spokesperson for the ruling party, issued this statement on Thursday.

This reaction follows Peter Obi’s press conference where he claimed that Nigeria’s economic and security challenges have significantly worsened under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over the past 18 months.

Obi, who previously served as the Governor of Anambra State, challenged Tinubu to visit local hospitals to witness the declining conditions firsthand.

In response, the APC disagreed with Obi’s assertions, asserting that the economy has made notable progress in recent months.

According to the APC, Peter Obi’s claims regarding the state of the economy and security are misleading and appear aimed at gaining political leverage.

“While Nigerians welcomed the New Year with optimism for a brighter 2025, Peter Obi, the former governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party, seems entrenched in a narrative of despair for our nation. His New Year message, which claimed that the political, economic, and security conditions are deteriorating, is misleading and appears to be intended for cheap political gain,” stated the APC.

“Obi’s remarks, especially at a time when various indicators suggest our nation is recovering across multiple sectors, position him firmly as Nigeria’s chief doomsayer,” the APC concluded.
