Better late than never.

As we approach the second month of 2025, Apple has officially updated its CarPlay webpage, indicating that the anticipated next-generation CarPlay will not be available in 2024. According to MacRumors, the previously mentioned 2024 timeframe for the initial vehicles featuring CarPlay 2 has been removed from Apple’s website without a new launch date provided.

Originally announced in 2022, the next-generation CarPlay has seen limited updates regarding its release. Automakers such as Porsche and Aston Martin, poised to be the first to adopt the new CarPlay, have yet to provide any specific launch timelines. Some manufacturers, including Ford and Mercedes, have been slow to confirm their support, while others like General Motors and Rivian have opted to forgo CarPlay in favor of maintaining more control over their vehicles.

Even though a revised launch date has not been disclosed, there are signs that Apple will eventually roll out the new CarPlay. References to the next-generation CarPlay can be found in the recently released iOS 18.3 beta, and Apple has also submitted new images for it in an EU database. Furthermore, Apple confirmed to 9to5Mac that it is collaborating closely with several automakers to implement the new CarPlay experience.

As stated by Apple, “Each car brand will share more details as they approach the announcements of the models that will support the next generation of CarPlay.”
