Apple is preparing to refresh its MacBook Air lineup with the highly anticipated M4 chips, set to launch in March, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in today’s Power On newsletter. This update will complete the transition of the MacBook line to M4 technology.
While Gurman did not specify an exact date, he mentioned that Apple is currently “preparing its marketing, sales, and retail teams for the debut” and clearing out existing stock of the laptops. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models are expected to launch simultaneously, similar to last year.
Since the shift to Apple Silicon, the MacBook Airs have shared specifications with the entry-level MacBook Pro, offering a sleek design with fewer ports and no cooling fan. The base 14-inch Pro model features 10-core CPUs and 10-core GPUs, complemented by 16GB of RAM. For more insights on performance, check out our review of the M4 MacBook Pro. We hope that the new Air models will also inherit the Pro’s significant upgrade, allowing users to connect two external displays while the lid remains open.
This leaves only the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, which are still powered by M2-generation chips, awaiting the M4 upgrade. Gurman suggests that the Mac Studio will receive its M4 update between March and June, while the Mac Pro could see its upgrade from June into the fall.
