A Texas murder suspect, Karmelo Anthony, aged 17, appeared in court on Monday for a bail hearing after hiring a prominent lawyer from Dallas.

As previously reported by CrimeOnline, Anthony faces murder charges for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Frisco on April 2.

On Saturday, Anthony’s family announced they had secured the services of attorney Mike Howard for representation at the hearing.

During the hearing, a judge in Collin County reduced Anthony’s bond from $1 million to $250,000 and imposed house arrest with an ankle monitor, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Austin Metcalf, a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, was tragically stabbed during a UIL District 11-5A track meet at Kuykendall Stadium. Reports indicate that Anthony, a student at Centennial High School in Frisco, stabbed Metcalf in the chest amid a confrontation that started when Anthony was seated under a tent meant for Memorial High School students.

Witnesses state that Anthony was waiting out a weather delay under the tent when Metcalf instructed him to leave.

In the arrest report, Anthony told a school resource officer that Metcalf had “put his hands” on him during their altercation.

After being taken into custody, Anthony allegedly stated, “I’m not alleged. I did it,” and later inquired about Metcalf’s condition, questioning if his actions could be deemed self-defense.

Last week, the law firm of Billy Clark and Kim T. Cole, who previously represented Anthony, released a statement aimed at lowering his $1 million bond.

This firm informed WFAA on Saturday that they had withdrawn from representing Anthony, and that Mike Howard would now take over his case.
