A young Australian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter has tragically died due to a rare health condition associated with strenuous gym workouts.

Jake Sendler, 21, from Melbourne, passed away just weeks after collapsing during a bout at an MMA event in the inner city earlier this month.

His family revealed that he succumbed to a life-threatening condition known as rhabdomyolysis, which is caused by severe muscle breakdown that inundates the body with dangerous toxins.

While preparing for the bout, Sendler was unaware that he was experiencing worsening symptoms. He continued training, working, and coaching, oblivious to the fact that his body was on the brink of failure.

Upon leaving the ring, his condition rapidly deteriorated, resulting in emergency hospitalization and multiple organ failure.

His medical team described it as the most severe case of rhabdomyolysis they had ever witnessed.

To support Sendler’s devastated family, a GoFundMe page has been established in his memory, raising over $30,000 in just a few hours.

“Fighter, Coach, Warrior – His Legacy Lives On,” the page states.

With profound sadness, the announcement reads that Jake has passed away. He was not only a fighter in the MMA ring but also a true warrior in life.

As a dedicated athlete, compassionate coach, beloved son, brother, and friend, Jake’s generous spirit, boundless energy, and unwavering support left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

Sendler was set to make his debut at the Road to Hex 3 fight night in Kensington on Sunday, March 3, when he encountered this tragic injury, according to News Corp.

During the final round of his three-round fight, he was seen throwing punches “at the air” in a disoriented state.

Hex Fight Series MMA Promotions has been contacted for comments regarding this unfortunate incident.
