On December 25th, as a special holiday treat, the social media app Bluesky announced the addition of a new feature: a list of trending topics that highlights popular subjects among its users.

This new feature is easily accessible by selecting the search icon (the magnifying glass) located at the bottom of the screen on the mobile app or on the left sidebar of the web version. Below the search bar, users can now find lists of trending and recommended subjects. By tapping on any topic, you can view the associated posts. During my trial, the top five trending topics included Christmas and Nosferatu, showcasing an interesting mix of interests.
If you prefer not to see the trending topics list, you can easily dismiss it by clicking the small “x” in the upper right corner or by navigating to Settings > Content & Media and toggling off Enable trending topics.
The announcement noted that this new feature is currently labeled as “V1” and is in Beta, with plans to iterate based on user feedback. If you have any concerns about the visibility of trends under your Bluesky search bar, be sure to share your thoughts with them.
