Michael Fanone, one of the officers who bravely defended the Capitol on January 6, 2021, expressed his views on Donald Trump’s pardons for the rioters, stating that it is “outrageous, but not surprising” during a CNN interview with Jake Tapper.
Fanone, who testified at the House Select Committee hearings regarding the Capitol attack, reiterated his sentiment, saying, “I mean, it’s outrageous, but not surprising.” He pointed out that Trump’s appeal to extremists is a recurring theme. He remarked, “If you rewind to the beginning of Donald Trump’s candidacy for the presidency, announced in Waco, Texas, it was marked by a violent confrontation between American extremists and law enforcement, leading to tragic losses among officers.”

Fanone further stated, “He’s been promising these pardons since day one, and the American people should have been aware that this was coming. Ultimately, they own this decision and these pardons.”
On that fateful day, rioters brutally dragged Fanone down the Capitol steps, assaulted him with pipes, tased him, and even sprayed him with bear spray, resulting in a concussion and a heart attack during the attack, as he testified.
CNN later aired footage of the assault against Fanone, captured from his body camera, highlighting the severity of the incident.
After being unfairly labeled a “crisis actor” by Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham, Fanone responded to CNN, saying, “The facts are the facts. You don’t have to take my word for it; you can watch the video and see the injuries I sustained.”
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow also condemned Trump’s pardons, emphasizing that the 47th president is “immunizing his followers from committing violence in his name.”
