Currently, many users are experiencing issues with ChatGPT. Numerous reports on social media confirm that while the chatbot loads, it fails to respond to user queries, and some are encountering an “internal server error” message.
The disruption appears to have begun around 1:30 PM ET, coinciding with a surge in reports on Down Detector. By 2 PM ET, OpenAI updated its status page, indicating that ChatGPT, the API, and its text-to-video generator Sora are currently experiencing elevated error rates. An additional update at 2:18 PM ET attributed the issue to an “upstream provider” and noted that OpenAI is actively monitoring the situation.
Unfortunately, there has been no announcement regarding an estimated time for when access will be restored.
ChatGPT has faced outages multiple times over the past few months. Just days after the release of Sora to ChatGPT subscribers earlier this month, both the video generation tool and ChatGPT experienced significant downtime. Additionally, a widespread outage in June affected various AI tools, leading to ChatGPT being unavailable for an extended period.
