Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has recently expanded its cast with the addition of four talented actors, including three who have previously collaborated with the acclaimed filmmaker known for his groundbreaking work in movies.
The Wrap reports that Himesh Patel (“Station Eleven”), Elliot Page (“The Umbrella Academy”), Bill Irwin (“Legion”), and Samantha Morton (“Minority Report”) are the latest names to join the ensemble of Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of Homer’s legendary Ancient Greek poem. They join a star-studded cast that already features Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, John Leguizamo, and Jon Bernthal.
This week, Benny Safdie joined the cast of “The Odyssey,” following his role as Edward Teller in “Oppenheimer.” This film marks not only a reunion between Safdie and Nolan but also brings together multiple past collaborators, including Damon, Pattinson, and Hathaway. Himesh Patel previously collaborated with Nolan in the 2020 sci-fi thriller “Tenet,” while Elliot Page starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the director’s acclaimed 2010 blockbuster “Inception.” Bill Irwin, though not yet appearing in a Nolan film, lent his voice to the robot TARS in 2014’s “Interstellar.”
Universal has yet to comment on the new castings, and details regarding the specific roles of Irwin, Patel, Page, and Morton in “The Odyssey” remain undisclosed. This adaptation is anticipated to be the most ambitious interpretation of Homer’s profoundly influential text, described as a “mythic action epic.” According to Universal’s announcement, the film will be “shot across the world using brand new IMAX technology.”
Principal photography for the film is expected to commence in February, with Nolan reportedly set to film the Ancient Greek epic in the United Kingdom, Morocco, and the Aeolian Islands near Sicily, Italy. Recent reports suggest a rumored production budget of $250 million, potentially making it the most expensive film of Nolan’s career.
“The Odyssey” is scheduled to premiere in theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026.
