In mid-January, a significant number of U.S. users turned to China’s platform Xiaohongshu as a result of the TikTok ban. This migration led to an unexpected “cost-of-living comparison” between American and Chinese users. Although Americans generally enjoy higher wages, many discovered that their living expenses made life more challenging compared to living in China. However, analysts warn that while such comparisons are appealing, they may not accurately reflect more detailed economic data.
