The “Dexter” mythology continues with exciting news! “Dexter: Original Sin” has officially been renewed for Season 2 on Paramount+ with Showtime, much to the delight of fans.
Returning as showrunner and executive producer, Clyde Phillips is set to lead the upcoming season. Although production dates remain unconfirmed, TheWrap reports that the writers’ room will soon commence work on these eagerly awaited episodes.
This renewal comes as no surprise, given the immense popularity of Season 1. The season broke records, becoming the most-streamed Showtime original series in a decade. This surge in viewership can be attributed to Showtime’s transition to the more dynamic Paramount+ streaming platform in 2023. The Season 1 finale attracted an impressive 2.68 million global viewers, making it the most-watched episode of the entire season, alongside over 15 million social media engagements.
Set against the backdrop of Miami in the ’90s, “Original Sin” follows Dexter (played by Patrick Gibson) during his formative years as a student. However, when Dexter struggles to suppress his lethal urges, his father, Harry (portrayed by Christian Slater), guides him in developing a Code that dictates his targets—only those who truly deserve it. As Dexter juggles his dark impulses, he must also navigate the scrutiny of his internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
Season 1 featured a talented cast, including Molly Brown, Christina Milian, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Patrick Dempsey. Additionally, original star Michael C. Hall lends his voice to the iconic inner monologue of Dexter Morgan.
Produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios, “Dexter: Original Sin” boasts a strong lineup of executive producers for Season 1, including Phillips, Hall, Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. The production team also included Robert Lloyd Lewis, with Michael Lehmann serving as the directing executive producer.
