Kachalla Dogo Isah, a notorious bandit leader in Kaduna State, was killed during a violent confrontation with repentant bandits in Kachia Forest on January 7, 2025. This incident reflects the ongoing struggle against banditry in the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano region.
The clash erupted when Isah’s group attempted to steal cattle from a camp led by Kachalla Musa, a former bandit leader who has recently joined a government-backed peace initiative. The situation escalated into a gun battle, resulting in the deaths of Dogo Isah and two of his men.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the details of the conflict, stating, “The violence erupted as Isah’s group tried to raid the cattle camp, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.” Dogo Isah had long been a significant security threat in the region, known for his involvement in cattle rustling, attacks on security personnel, and other criminal activities within the Kachia and Kajuru areas.
His unwillingness to engage in peace efforts has exacerbated instability in the region. The death of Dogo Isah marks a notable reduction in banditry activities in Kaduna, although it highlights the ongoing risks faced by those leaving banditry behind.
In September 2024, Isah’s cousin, Tukur Sharme, was also killed in a similar clash with repentant bandits. This ongoing conflict is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the army and security forces in combating banditry in the region.
