Exciting news for fans of Dr. Seuss: “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” has officially been given a release date.
The highly anticipated animated feature, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu, known for his work on “Wicked,” alongside Jill Culton, is set to hit traditional theaters and IMAX on March 17, 2028. The project is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Gregg Taylor from Abrams’ Bad Robot, in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Dr. Seuss Enterprises.
Rob Lieber has crafted the screenplay for this adaptation based on Dr. Seuss’ beloved final book, which has been a cherished graduation gift since its publication on January 22, 1990.
In an exciting addition, EGOT winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul have composed new songs for the movie. Known for their work on hits like “La La Land,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “Spirited,” they are also behind songs for Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of “Snow White” and Pharrell’s project “Golden” (previously titled “Atlantis”).
“Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” marks Jon M. Chu’s debut in animated features, though he previously showcased his visual storytelling skills in “Wicked,” which received an Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects. Jill Culton brings her extensive animation expertise; she recently wrote and directed “Abominable” for DreamWorks Animation and has an impressive background as a story artist on classics like “Toy Story,” “A Bug’s Life,” “Shrek,” and “Monsters, Inc.”
This new adaptation joins the ranks of other animated films inspired by Dr. Seuss’ work, including “The Grinch,” “The Lorax,” and “Horton Hears a Who.”
Fans of Chu can look forward to his upcoming release, “Wicked: For Good,” debuting this Thanksgiving.
