Former Federal Commissioner for Information and prominent South-South Leader, Edwin Clark, has passed away. According to a statement released by his family, the chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) died on Monday night, February 17, 2025, at the age of 97.

The Clark-Fuludu Bekederemo family of Kiagbodo Town, Delta State, expresses their sorrow in announcing the passing of Chief (Dr.) Sen. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, OFR, CON. They appreciate the prayers of friends and well-wishers during this difficult time. Further details regarding memorial services will be announced by the family.

Born in Kiagbodo, within the Ijaw region of what is now Delta State, Edwin Clark attended primary and secondary schools in Effurun, Okrika, and Afugbene. He later completed his studies at the Government Teacher Training College, which eventually evolved into Delta State University, Abraka. After a brief stint as a school teacher, he pursued his law degree abroad.

Clark’s career included significant roles within the administrations of military governor Samuel Ogbemudia and head of state General Yakubu Gowon from 1966 to 1975. In 1966, he served on an advisory committee for the Mid-Western Region military governor, David Ejoor, and was appointed Federal Commissioner of Information in 1975.
