In a significant move within the tech and political landscape, Elon Musk’s platform X has agreed to pay former President Donald Trump approximately $10 million to resolve his lawsuit against Twitter, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. This settlement is in addition to an estimated $250 million that Musk, now wielding considerable influence over government policies as the head of DOGE, allocated to assist in Trump’s election campaign last year.
Trump initiated legal action against Twitter, Facebook, and Google following the suspension of his accounts after the January 6th, 2021, Capitol riot. However, a judge dismissed this lawsuit in 2022, rejecting the claims that the social media companies acted as state actors or that Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is unconstitutional.
While Trump’s legal battle against Google is ongoing, Meta recently opted to settle with Trump for $25 million at the end of last month. Additionally, ABC News agreed to settle Trump’s defamation lawsuit for $15 million. Just last month, the Journal indicated that Paramount Global is considering a settlement regarding Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit over the editing of a Kamala Harris 60 Minutes interview.
