The 75th ACE Eddie Awards took place at UCLA’s Royce Hall on Friday evening, celebrating the best in film and television editing. Notable wins included “Emilia Pérez” and “Wicked”, highlighting the outstanding contributions to the film industry. This year’s ceremony was postponed from its original January date due to wildfires affecting the L.A. metro area.

Juliette Welfling’s editing for “Emilia Pérez” and Myron Kerstein’s work on “Wicked” stood out, especially in contrast to the 97th Academy Awards, where Sean Baker claimed the Oscar for Best Film Editing for “Anora” on March 2. Last year, films like “Oppenheimer” and “The Holdovers” were recognized, with “Oppenheimer” ultimately winning the Oscar. Historically, two-thirds of ACE feature-film winners have also received the Oscar for Best Film Editing. Since the ACE split its top film award into separate drama and comedy or musical categories 25 years ago, the drama winner has secured the Oscar 14 times, while the comedy/musical winner has done so twice.

In the animated feature category, “The Wild Robot” earned the Eddie, awarded to Mary Blee. Michelle McMillan won for her editing work on the TV series “X-Men ’97”. In nonfiction, Monique Zavistovski won for “Will & Harper”, while the team of Evan Wise, Charles Divak, Adrienne Gits, and Doug Abel triumphed for the TV series “Chimp Crazy”.

The ceremony also recognized various TV winners, including Maria Gonzales and Aika Miyake for “Shōgun”, Peter H. Oliver and Benjamin Gerstein for “Baby Reindeer”, and Russell Griffin for “Frasier”. Additional winners included Liza Cardinale and Dane McMaster for “What We Do in the Shadows”, and Doc Crotzer for “Roadhouse”, along with a large team for “Welcome to Wrexham”.

Special awards were presented to “Wicked” director Jon M. Chu, named Filmmaker of the Year, along with film editors Maysie Hoy and Paul Hirsch for Career Achievement.
