The family of a Narrabri man who was allegedly hit and killed by three teenagers in an allegedly stolen ute has called for a comprehensive overhaul of the youth justice system.
Daniel McNamara’s father and brothers made a poignant journey to Gunnedah, NSW to pay their respects at his roadside memorial and to urge the government for change.
"Something’s gotta happen, to do something constructive, to help the community, to stop these things from happening to innocent, beautiful people," expressed Patrick McNamara, Daniel’s father.

The tragic death of Daniel on Tuesday ignited widespread outrage across regional New South Wales.
At 52 years old, he was allegedly struck and killed by a stolen ute, reportedly driven by three boys aged 14 from Moree.
"The police’s hands are tied to take any action because they’re free the next day and they get a slap on the wrist," Patrick lamented.
The individual accused of driving the vehicle that killed Daniel had a concerning 90 breaches of bail, while another charged had recently been released from custody on similar offences.
Daniel’s family is advocating for significant reforms to the youth justice system.
"Implement a system that includes boot camps or national service to educate these individuals on respect and help them grow into responsible citizens for Australia," Patrick proposed.
As pressure mounts on the NSW government to act on the youth crime crisis, Premier Chris Minns has pledged to review current legislation when parliament reconvenes this month.
"I’m going to do everything I can to stop it, and if it doesn’t work I’ll move on to the next thing," he stated.
In the meantime, communities and families like the McNamara’s continue to suffer the consequences.
"Something’s gotta change to help these people, these kids," Patrick concluded.
