The San Antonio Spurs are currently facing uncertainty regarding the future of their head coach, Gregg Popovich, as he is not expected to return this season.
Recent reports indicate that legendary coach Gregg Popovich is unlikely to make a comeback this year, leading to questions about his future with the Spurs.
According to ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania, Popovich is recovering from a “mild stroke” that occurred in early November. In his update, Charania mentioned that Popovich’s return is not anticipated this season, with his future remaining “uncertain”:

Since suffering the stroke, Popovich has not coached the team. He experienced the stroke just before the Spurs’ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 2. In his absence, assistant coach Mitch Johnson has taken over as interim head coach, leading the team to a 21-27 record.
Gregg Popovich remains the winningest head coach in NBA history, boasting 1,390 regular-season victories and 170 post-season wins, alongside five NBA championships during his tenure.
Moreover, the Spurs are also contending with the loss of second-year star Victor Wembanyama, who has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. The organization believes this condition is an isolated incident and expects Wembanyama to recover fully.
