In a heartbreaking case, Daniel Schwarz, the guardian father, has admitted guilt to the manslaughter of 8-year-old Jaylin Schwarz. Tragically, Jaylin was forced to jump on a trampoline in the sweltering Texas heat as a form of punishment.
On Friday, Daniel Schwarz, 49, entered his guilty plea as part of a plea deal, which will result in an 18-year prison sentence, as reported by KWTX.
In 2023, KWTX also reported that Ashley Schwarz, Daniel’s wife, was sentenced to capital murder for her involvement in Jaylin’s tragic death, receiving three life sentences.
At the time of Jaylin’s death, both Daniel and Ashley Schwarz were her legal guardians and presented themselves as her parents.
According to CrimeOnline, the Odessa Police Department announced on October 12, 2020, that Daniel and Ashley Schwarz faced capital murder charges. WLTX reported that the couple is accused of causing Jaylin’s death, which occurred on August 29, as a result of deprivation of food and water, in addition to being forced to jump on a trampoline for an extended duration.
An autopsy revealed that dehydration was the cause of Jaylin’s death, with homicide classified as the manner of death.
On the day of her death, the couple allegedly punished Jaylin by withholding her breakfast. Police reported that they compelled her to jump on the trampoline and failed to provide water once she stopped jumping.
Police stated, “A search warrant was later obtained, and the temperature of the trampoline was recorded at approximately 110 degrees, while the ground temperature reached about 150 degrees.”
