Hamann Says Arsenal Missed Out on Liverpool Transfer for Nunez

I think even Darwin Nunez, I think Nunez would be gold for Arsenal. Because I think if you’ve got somebody up top who bullies defenders, who draws defenders in, he always gets the attention of two or three defenders.

Former Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann has advised Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal to have pursued the signing of Reds attacker Darwin Nunez during the January transfer window.

Hamann believes that the Uruguayan striker could effectively address Arsenal’s goal-scoring challenges and help unlock opposing defenses with his impactful presence.

Speaking to Prime Casino, the former Premier League star emphasized that Nunez would have significantly enhanced Mikel Arteta’s squad.

According to him, the Gunners erred by not considering the Uruguay international and failing to attempt to lure him from Anfield.

“The only real question mark I have about Arsenal’s squad is the centre-forward position. I believe Darwin Nunez would be a fantastic addition for Arsenal,” he stated.

“Having a player who can physically challenge defenders and attract the attention of two or three opponents changes the dynamics of the game. His size and speed are key assets.”

“When a team has a player with a strong physical presence and pace, it creates more opportunities. Arsenal often finds space, but having quick players like Saka, Martinelli, and Odegaard benefits when they exploit those openings due to the defensive pressure Nunez would apply.”

“Unfortunately, it’s too late for that now, and they must work with their current squad,” he added as reported by Metro.

Meanwhile, Arne Slot’s side is looking to facilitate Nunez’s departure in January.

Although Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr expressed interest in signing the striker, Liverpool halted the move due to their inability to find a suitable replacement.

Transfer: He would be gold for them – Hamann surprised Arsenal didn’t sign Liverpool striker.
