Aston Villa are engaged in advanced negotiations with Celta Vigo for the transfer of defender Oscar Mingueza, according to talkSPORT.
Villa’s sporting director Monchi is spearheading the discussions to secure the versatile Spanish international Mingueza.
Villa are in talks to sign Mingueza.
Additionally, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce is showing significant interest in Villa centre-back Diego Carlos.
This could trigger a domino effect, with Carlos potentially moving to Turkey if Villa successfully finalizes the deal for Mingueza.
The adaptable Spaniard, capable of playing as both a centre-back and right-back, currently has 18 months left on his contract.
He made the switch from Barcelona to Celta in 2022 and has earned two caps for Spain.
At 25 years old, Mingueza has made 17 La Liga appearances this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists.
If the transfer goes through, Mingueza would mark Unai Emery’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Previously, the Spaniard invested nearly £150 million on eight new signings over the summer.
Meanwhile, Carlos’ contract is also set to expire at the end of the next term.
The 31-year-old is currently recovering from a foot injury but is expected to return to action this month.
Carlos has featured in 17 matches this season, including all six of Villa’s Champions League games.
Carlos is attracting interest from Fenerbahce.
He could be replaced by the versatile Spanish defender.
However, the return of Tyrone Mings to fitness may limit Carlos’ playing opportunities, especially with Pau Torres currently sidelined due to injury.
Aston Villa has already loaned Lewis Dobbin to Norwich following his return from West Brom this month.
Jaden Philogene is also on the verge of leaving Villa Park as he nears a move to Ipswich.
Currently, Emery’s side sits eighth in the Premier League after 20 matches, just four points shy of the top four.
Additionally, they have advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup after defeating West Ham on Friday night.
