The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has successfully arrested 53 individuals suspected of being involved in thuggery and drug dealing in the state.
Dr Yusuf Ibrahim-Kofarmata, Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, made this announcement in a statement released on Saturday in Kano.
He explained that these arrests were part of ongoing clearance operations aimed at combating thuggery and substance abuse in the region.
“Between March 13 and March 14, the committee executed intelligence-led operations targeting criminal hideouts and known black spots in Yakasai, Kofar Mata, Zango, Zage, Zanzado, Rimi Market, Shahuchi Park, Kano Line, Sharada, Ja’in, Dan Agundi, and neighboring areas across the state.
During these operations, the committee successfully recovered three parcels, 50 wraps, and other significant quantities of dried leaves believed to be cannabis sativa, along with two bottles of codeine syrup, two tubes of rubber solution, and one gallon of a substance referred to as “suck and die.”
In addition, the operation seized 105 pieces of suspected exol tablets, five cutlasses, two scissors, two clubs, and a collection of suspected charms.
According to Dr Ibrahim-Kofarmata, substantial amounts of cannabis sativa were found at a notorious drug joint located in Zanzado, which was the primary site for the largest quantity of the substance discovered.
“A delivery vehicle and five cattle, linked to a known drug dealer, were also confiscated at this location.
“The suspects will face charges in court once the investigation is concluded,” he stated.
The chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to creating a safer, drug-free, and peaceful environment for all residents of the state.
“The committee, which consists of various security agencies and government officials, is dedicated to cleaning up the streets of Kano and restoring peace to the community,” Ibrahim-Kofarmata emphasized.
