In a gripping episode of Crime Stories with Nancy Grace, Alex Murdaugh’s former housekeeper, Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson, shares her insights.
Recently, South Carolina’s Supreme Court has granted a new trial request for Alex Murdaugh regarding the murders of his wife and son. This appeal focuses on whether former South Carolina Chief Justice Jean Toal justly denied Murdaugh a new trial. The Supreme Court holds the power to potentially reverse or overturn this ruling and could mandate a new trial.
One of the critical allegations revolves around claims that Colleton County Clerk of Court Rebecca Hill improperly communicated with jurors. During a hearing led by Judge Jean Toal, one juror, referred to as Juror Z, testified that Becky Hill instructed jurors to monitor Murdaugh “closely” and insinuated that he was “already guilty.”
When questioned about whether this influenced her verdict against Murdaugh, the juror responded, “Yes, ma’am.” Judge Toal deemed Becky Hill an unreliable witness and subsequently denied Murdaugh’s request for a new trial.
