In a thrilling match against Villarreal, Kylian Mbappe achieved a remarkable feat at Real Madrid, edging closer to the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo’s record.
After a challenging start to his 2024-25 season with Real Madrid, the French sensation has recently regained his form, solidifying his position as one of the world’s elite players. During the match, he surpassed a milestone previously held by a Ballon d’Or winner at Real Madrid, setting his sights on Cristiano Ronaldo‘s record.
Real Madrid faced Villarreal in a crucial La Liga encounter. Los Blancos initially fell behind but rallied back to secure a vital win, with Mbappe scoring two goals that propelled the team to the top of the league while marking a significant personal milestone.
These two goals brought Mbappe’s season tally to 31 goals, surpassing the legendary Ronaldo Nazario‘s record of 30 goals from his debut season in 2002-03 after moving from Inter Milan.
This achievement serves as a tremendous boost for Real Madrid, who have eagerly anticipated the impact of their French forward. Now, Mbappe is on the verge of breaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s debut-season record at the club, which stands at 33 goals from the 2009-10 season after his transfer from Manchester United.

With at least 13 matches remaining before the start of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in June, Mbappe has ample opportunity to surpass Ronaldo’s milestone. Notably, he has already played 43 matches, while Ronaldo achieved his tally in just 35 appearances.
Mbappe’s Humble Message After Reaching the Milestone
Despite his early struggles in Madrid, Mbappe remains grounded. In a recent interview with Real Madrid TV, he shared his thoughts on reaching this milestone with humility.
“They are great legends who defined an era. That’s important, but these are just numbers,” Mbappe stated when reflecting on surpassing Ronaldo Nazario and pursuing Cristiano Ronaldo’s record. “If I score many more goals than Cristiano and Ronaldo, it doesn’t mean I’m greater—only that I had a better first season, thanks to my teammates. The most important thing is to help and win titles,” he added.
“Scoring goals is very important, but if we don’t win titles, for me, it’s not worth it. It’s only worth it if we win La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League,” Mbappe concluded, emphasizing his focus on winning trophies in his debut season at Real Madrid.
