The American Airlines plane crash in Washington DC has left family members of the passengers anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones on board.

Hamaad Raza reported that his wife was aboard the aircraft that collided with a Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River around 9 PM local time as it neared Ronald Reagan National Airport in the U.S. capital.

Raza expressed his hope for news regarding his wife’s survival as search and rescue teams dive into the frigid waters of the Potomac River.

“I’m just praying that someone is pulling her out of the river right now as we speak,” Raza told CNN affiliate WUSA.

“That’s all I can pray for, I’m just praying to God.”

Raza mentioned that he last received a text message from his wife shortly before the aircraft was set to land in Washington DC.

“She texted me that they were landing in 20 minutes. The rest of my texts did not get delivered,” Raza recounted.

“That’s when I knew that something was wrong.”

Man waits for news of wife at airport after Washington DC crash

The PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet was approaching the airport in Washington DC.

The flight was originating from Wichita, Kansas when it collided with a Sikorsky H-50 Black Hawk Helicopter.

The aircraft was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, while the helicopter had three soldiers on board.

A major search and rescue operation is currently in progress to recover survivors from the river.

As of now, there are no verified reports of casualties, and American Airlines has stated that it is “concerned for the passengers and crew on board the aircraft.”
