In a significant move, Meta has terminated “roughly 20” employees for leaking “confidential information outside the company,” according to a spokesperson.

“We inform employees upon joining and provide periodic reminders that leaking internal information is against our policies, regardless of the intent,” stated Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold in an exclusive comment to The Verge. He added, “Our recent investigation led to the termination of approximately 20 employees for sharing confidential information outside the company, and we anticipate more dismissals. We take these breaches seriously and will continue to act whenever leaks are identified.”

Meta has intensified its efforts to combat leaks due to a surge in stories revealing unannounced product plans and internal meetings. This includes a recent all-hands meeting led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Following reports on Zuckerberg’s statements during that meeting, employees were warned against leaking. Additionally, in comments that were leaked later, CTO Andrew Bosworth informed employees that the company is “making progress on catching people who leak information.”

Morale within Meta has declined since Zuckerberg announced major changes to content moderation policies and the disbandment of the diversity team.
