Netflix is set to expand its gaming offerings by introducing couch co-op and party games that will be streamed directly to televisions. Co-CEO Greg Peters shared this exciting news during the company’s Q4 2024 earnings announcement. This initiative follows Netflix’s beta version of cloud gaming, which has been available to a select group of subscribers since 2023, indicating a commitment to growth in this area.
While Peters did not provide a specific timeline for when these co-op and party games will launch, he expressed enthusiasm, suggesting that they aim to reinvent the traditional family board game night and reimagine the classic TV game show format.
In addition to these multiplayer experiences, Netflix is focusing on developing more narrative-driven games that are based on its popular IPs. Peters highlighted that these narrative games are fan favorites, and there is a wealth of content in their library to draw from.
Recently, Netflix’s gaming division has undergone significant changes. Former executive Leanne Loombe announced her move to Annapurna Interactive, and the division welcomed a new leader last year following the transition of the previous head, who shifted focus to generative AI in games. Furthermore, Netflix announced plans to remove nearly all of its interactive titles and is also closing its AAA studio before any games are released.
