Al-Nassr is entangled in yet another controversy this season, which has already been fraught with tension. This time, the spotlight is on one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammates, who is facing legal issues following an incident during the recent international break.

The Knight of Najd are in pursuit of Saudi Pro League glory, but they trail Al-Ittihad by ten points, making their title ambitions increasingly bleak. Reports have surfaced regarding tension between head coach Stefano Pioli and Ronaldo, and now, a new controversy adds to the team’s troubles.

During the recent international break, Al-Nassr forward Jhon Duran ignited outrage by riding a three-wheeled motorbike in Colombia—without wearing a helmet. The 21-year-old striker, who joined from Aston Villa in January, returned home after March’s FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Unlike many players who utilize this time to recharge, Duran’s choice of relaxation has landed him in serious trouble.

A video circulating on social media depicted the young striker joyriding on a Ryker motorcycle through the streets of Medellin. However, neither he nor his passengers wore helmets, which constitutes a direct violation of Colombia’s road safety laws.

He captioned his post with a reflective message: Always do it with your loved ones, that’s what remains, and don’t try to please everyone, that’s not good.”  However, this did little to mitigate the backlash from fans, who deemed the incident reckless.

Fans react to Duran’s recklessness

Social media erupted with criticism directed at Duran, with many users condemning his irresponsible behavior. One comment encapsulated the frustration: No titles, no goals, no helmet. Another remarked: And the helmet? Safety and law. Other fans ridiculed his choice, with one commenting: On the road on a motorcycle without a helmet. Too much reggaeton! Another added: Zero humility.

The backlash revolved not only around the legal implications but also highlighted the player’s burgeoning reputation for arrogance. This is not Duran’s first encounter with controversy.

After Los Cafeteros’ 2-2 draw against Paraguay, Duran engaged in a tense exchange with journalists, dismissing inquiries regarding internal criticism within the national team. He responded, “None personally, and the team less so. We worked for the win, we ran, and we missed two chances, just like any team would.” This response was deemed dismissive and further fueled accusations of arrogance.
