Mudashiru Obasa Apologizes to Security Agencies for DSS Assault Incident

In a recent statement on February 27, Mudashiru Obasa, the reinstated Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, expressed his deep regret regarding the assault on Department of State Services (DSS) operatives that occurred within the Assembly complex on February 17.

Obasa acknowledged the embarrassment this incident caused the DSS and the Nigerian Police Force, stating, "On behalf of the Lagos State House of Assembly, I hereby apologize to the security agencies for the embarrassment caused them, and in particular the assault on security operatives of the DSS as widely circulated in videos."

He emphasized the importance of the Assembly’s longstanding relationship with security agencies, noting that their presence was requested that day for additional support. "It is regrettable that security operatives of the DSS had to be assaulted in the hallowed chambers of our State Assembly," he added.

Obasa also expressed hope for an amicable settlement regarding those charged in connection with the incident, stating, "We plead on behalf of those who have been charged to court and look forward to an amicable settlement of this matter."

This apology comes as Obasa officially resumed his position as Speaker following a period of uncertainty surrounding his leadership.

In related news, three staff members of the Assembly, charged with assaulting DSS operatives, have been granted bail. Obasa’s statement highlighted the need for maintaining a cordial relationship between the Lagos Assembly and the security agencies, stressing that such incidents should not hinder their cooperation in ensuring law and order within the state.
