The upcoming Oppo Find N5 foldable phone is impressively slim, being barely thicker than its own USB-C port when fully opened, as revealed in recent promotional photos from the company. This flagship model is anticipated to be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 for its launch in the US and is expected to offer exceptional water resistance.
Oppo has been actively teasing the Find N5 on the Chinese social media platform Weibo for the past week. Zhou Yibao, the product manager for the Find series, shared photos showcasing its compact size, noting that the only limitation to achieving a thinner design is the thickness of the charging port.
These images follow a video released last week, where Zhou compares the hidden Find N5 to various everyday items, illustrating that it is comparable in thickness to two Chinese yuan coins, a stack of four ID cards, or exactly 39 sticky notes.
The company claims that the Find N5 is the thinnest foldable phone to date. Currently, that title belongs to the Honor Magic V3, which measures 4.35mm thick when opened, suggesting that the Find N5 must be close to 4mm. This makes it appear about half the thickness of the 8.25mm iPhone 16 Pro Max shown alongside it in the photos. For reference, a USB-C port has a minimum thickness of 2.6mm.
In an additional post, Zhou hinted at the phone’s waterproofing, claiming an IPX9 rating. This indicates that while it lacks official dust protection (the ‘X’), it has been tested for endurance against high-temperature and high-pressure water jets. Additionally, it holds an IPX8 rating for submersion and an IPX6 rating for lower temperature water jets. For comparison, the OnePlus 13 is rated IP69, which includes dust protection.
Oppo’s previous foldable device, the Find N3 (the N4 was omitted due to its association with death in China), eventually launched in Western markets as the OnePlus Open. If a similar pattern emerges, the Find N5 could become significant competition for Samsung and Google’s current generation of foldable smartphones. More details are expected when the Find N5 is officially launched in China next month.
