The Retroid Pocket Mini is facing a significant issue affecting its emulation capabilities, particularly with graphical effects. Retroid, the China-based manufacturer of the Pocket Mini, announced via Discord that it will accept returns for the device during a limited window from March 8th to March 14th. However, this return policy is capped at only 200 units for customers outside of China, as reported by RetroHandhelds.
Earlier this week, Retroid acknowledged that it could not resolve the graphical issue, which impacts the display of scanline and pixel grid shaders meant to replicate the look of classic CRT screens. Users have reported problems such as misplaced scanlines, uneven pixel displays, and slightly distorted images.
Reddit post, Retroid is in a challenging position as a smaller company now facing the expense of return shipping. Nonetheless, many gamers who purchased the $199 handheld specifically for retro gaming find themselves with a device that, despite its impressive display, struggles with fundamental emulation effects.
