Ann Altman has initiated a lawsuit against her brother, Sam Altman, who is the CEO of OpenAI, alleging a history of sexual abuse that spanned nearly a decade during their childhood.

The Altman family has strongly denied these allegations, asserting that they are “utterly untrue” and arise from “mental health challenges” that Ann has experienced for many years.

In a statement released by Sam, along with his mother and brothers, they expressed, “Annie has made deeply hurtful and entirely untrue claims about our family, and especially Sam,” as they addressed the lawsuit publicly.

According to the lawsuit filed in a federal court in Missouri, Ann claims that the abuse began in 1997 when she was just three years old and continued until 2006, when Sam turned 18. It is stated that Ann has endured “severe emotional distress” as a consequence of the alleged abuse, impacting her ability to lead a “normal life.”

Ann’s attorney, Ryan J. Mahoney, characterized the Altman family’s response as an effort to “divert attention away from the harm that they caused.” He emphasized that sexual abuse can lead to significant mental health issues, including persistent PTSD, depression, and anxiety, and asserted there is “no evidence” suggesting Ann’s mental health has influenced her allegations.

The Altman family’s statement claims that Ann has made conspiratorial statements about various family members over the years while seeking financial support. They have reportedly offered her assistance and urged her to seek medical help, but assert that she has “refused conventional treatment.”

Stating that the matter causes immense pain to the family, they mentioned they had previously chosen not to publicly address similar claims Ann has made. However, they felt compelled to respond now that a lawsuit has been filed.
