Alabama prosecutors have filed a motion requesting additional time to investigate the disappearance of 2-year-old Kahleb Collins, who was last seen in September.

According to WABM, Kahleb Collins’ mother and grandfather, Wendy Bailey and John Bailey, aged 22 and 50, respectively, have a preliminary hearing set for March 11. However, Andrew C. Hamlin, the District Attorney for the 24th Judicial Circuit, requested and was granted a postponement to prepare their case against the Baileys.

Hamlin’s request has been approved, resulting in the rescheduling of the Baileys’ preliminary hearing to April 11.

Kahleb Collins remains missing months after a tragic crash on December 8 that took the lives of his father and older sister. Wendy Bailey, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries in the accident. She is currently charged with criminally negligent homicide for failing to secure her daughter in a car seat before the crash, where Collins’ father drove off the road at 90 mph and struck a tree.

Authorities believe Collins is deceased, although he was not involved in the December 8 crash. Shortly after the incident, John Bailey was charged with failing to report Collins’ disappearance.

Investigators noted that on at least two occasions, Wendy Bailey allegedly witnessed her son being tied with rope, physically assaulted, and restrained by a rope in a loft with visible blood and bruising.

Kahleb Collins’ father reportedly sent Wendy Bailey photos depicting their son hanging by a rope and injured. He allegedly expressed intentions to kill the toddler, though he later texted that Collins was still moving.

In addition to charges of aggravated child abuse and domestic violence, Wendy Bailey faces charges of abusing a corpse, as authorities suspect her son’s body was placed in a bag and hidden in a storage building, later discarded at an unknown location.

John Bailey is currently held on a $100,000 bond, while Wendy Bailey’s bond is set at $1.9 million.
