Re-enacting the chaotic meeting from last week involving Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the March 8 episode showcased James Austin Johnson’s portrayal of Trump trying to mediate a truce between Marco Rubio (played by Marcello Hernandez) and Elon Musk (Mike Myers) in an Oval Office meeting. This sketch followed a New York Times report detailing a heated cabinet meeting that culminated in a screaming match between Trump’s Secretary of State and the CEO of X, who also heads DOGE.
During the meeting, Trump reassured Rubio, saying, “I know you’re under a lot of stress, but I can’t have you fighting with Elon. I need you to be my good little Marco.” Rubio, ready to confront Trump, quips, “If you think I’m going to stand here and let you call me that… You’re right!”
Rubio then updates Trump about his plans to retake the Panama Canal—a whimsical pursuit of the president. However, Trump dismisses it, stating, “It sounds like a hassle.” The sketch humorously delves into the inner thoughts of the politicians, highlighting Trump’s realization: “Wait a minute, what is this? I’m thinking something and not saying it out loud. Whoa. This is a whole new thing. This is crazy. This can save me a lot of trouble. I should do this more often. I won’t, but I should.”
As Musk enters, the dynamics shift, with Trump trying to ease tensions between his colleagues. Rubio takes a jab at Trump for granting Musk so much government power and access. After some witty exchanges, Trump reminds Musk that Rubio is an essential part of the team.
Musk, in a humorous aside, thinks: “Phase one of my plan is complete: Ingratiate yourself to the president and take over the media. But was taking this job a bad idea? A lot of people seem to really hate me; Tesla’s stock is crashing, and my personal net worth just dropped by $100 billion.”
Trump attempts to set some ground rules for Rubio and Musk to avoid further negative headlines, instructing Rubio to manage his budget and advising Musk to stay in his lane.
Musk then reminds Trump of the $300 million he paid to take control of the government, prompting Trump to concede, “I’ll get out of ‘your office.’”
