Macbeth, the iconic play by William Shakespeare, is being transformed into an interactive video game with a captivating neo-noir aesthetic. This innovative project, titled Lili, is being developed in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company. It promises a unique experience as a “screen life thriller video game” where players will delve into a modern-day Lady Macbeth’s life through her personal devices, as detailed in a recent press release.

According to the release, “Players will be immersed in a stylized, neo-noir vision of modern Iran, where themes of surveillance and authoritarianism shape daily life.” The gameplay will cleverly combine live-action cinema with an interactive format, allowing players to engage deeply with the world of Lady Macbeth and make decisions that will impact her fate. This concept draws inspiration from interactive thrillers like Sam Barlow’s acclaimed titles.

The Royal Shakespeare Company is partnering with iNK Stories, an indie studio based in New York known for their previous work on 1979 Revolution: Black Friday. The game features Zar Amir in the role of “Lady Macbeth (Lili),” as highlighted in the press release.

Lili is anticipated to launch later in 2025, offering a fresh and interactive take on Shakespeare’s timeless tale.
