As The Verge’s resident wearables reviewer, I find myself in a peculiar position: I am the last person on earth who needs another watch. I am constantly trying out the latest smartwatches, often double-wristing them. Similarly, I’ve spent a summer wearing six rings, resembling a high-tech mafia wife. Yet, I never claimed to make sensible choices. Recently, I found myself wearing the $120 Casio CRW001-1, affectionately dubbed the Casio Ring Watch.
This accessory is straightforward and devoid of any pretense. It’s a compact Casio watch designed to sit on your finger. Created to commemorate Casio’s 50th anniversary, it also taps into the nostalgia for retro designs reminiscent of our youth. This piece brings back memories of vintage watch rings from the ’80s and ’90s, which you can find on Etsy for around $10. However, this specific model is fully functional.
This is just a watch you wear on your finger. There’s no heart rate or fitness tracking.“>
Upon unboxing, my immediate thought was that this is not a product anyone should buy. Currently, it is unavailable on Casio’s official site and fetches prices exceeding $300 on eBay. Such is the reality for limited-edition gadgetry. In a time when basic necessities are rising in cost, your money might be better spent on more practical items.
