Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett faced significant backlash after referring to Texas Governor Greg Abbott as “Hot Wheels.” This controversy was highlighted during a segment on “The View” on Wednesday, where she insisted that her comments were not intended to mock his disability.

Alyssa Farah Griffin responded to Crockett’s remarks by stating, “It’s never OK to mock someone’s disability… Governor Abbott was paralyzed from the waist down when he was 29 years old due to a tree falling on him. It’s a tragedy, whether you agree with him politically or not. It should be off limits.”

Earlier, the Missouri-born Texas congressional representative stated that the nickname given to Abbott during a recent Human Rights Campaign event did not reference his wheelchair. Instead, she claimed it was about his policies regarding migrant deportation using various transportation methods.

“I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition; I was discussing the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, intentionally creating tension and fear among vulnerable populations,” she explained on X.

“The next line of my statement was that he was a ‘Hot A** Mess,’ which referred to his poor policies. At no point did I mention or imply anything about his condition,” she added.

Whoopi Goldberg advised Crockett during the show, saying, “Your intentions may have been exactly as you describe, but once something is said, it’s no longer about your words but how others perceive your intentions. Everyone needs to be cautious.”

Sara Haines remarked, “Representative Crockett is far better than this… We expect such remarks from Marjorie Taylor Greene, as that’s the only way she can draw attention. She should apologize and move forward.”

Crockett expressed her dismay that some criticism came from Trump supporters, noting that the former president has a history of using “racially insensitive nicknames” and mocking individuals with disabilities, referencing an incident from November 2015 when Trump made fun of a disabled New York Times reporter.
