A British toddler was expelled from nursery school after being accused of transphobia or homophobia, as reported by local media.
The child, aged between 3 and 4 years, was removed from an unnamed nursery for allegedly being transphobic, according to the Telegraph’s report released on Monday.
Details regarding the school and the case specifics were not revealed by the United Kingdom’s Department for Education (DfE), as per the report.
A DfE spokesperson stated, “All pupils and staff should feel safe and protected at school and should never face violence or abuse.”
Statistics indicate that 94 students in state primary schools faced suspension or permanent exclusion for incidents of transphobia and homophobia during the 2022-23 school year.
This figure includes 10 students from year one and three from year two, where the oldest age is seven, according to the report.
Helen Joyce, director of advocacy at Sex Matters, commented, “Every once in a while, extreme views on gender ideology produce stories that seem unbelievable, such as a toddler being suspended for supposed transphobia or homophobia.”

She added, “Teachers and school leaders involved in this situation should be ashamed of themselves for imposing adult concepts and beliefs on young children.”
Author J.K. Rowling, known for her outspoken views on trans issues, criticized the suspension.
Rowling stated, “This is totalitarian insanity. If you believe small children should be punished for recognizing sex, you are a dangerous zealot who should not be near children or in any position of authority over them,” she expressed on X.

Lord Young, director of the Free Speech Union, remarked, “It is hard to believe that schools are suspending children as young as five for violating their ‘transphobia’ policies. If your ideology is so inflexible that it justifies punishing toddlers for non-compliance, that’s a compelling reason to reconsider it in favor of a more adaptable approach.”
