In a heartbreaking incident, a police dog from NSW has died after being struck by a truck in western Sydney overnight.
Eddie, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, was exercising during an operational shift when he ran onto Jedda Road at Prestons around 10:24 PM.
The truck hit him, resulting in multiple injuries, and unfortunately, the driver did not stop.

Eddie was quickly taken to the veterinarian, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in locating the truck involved in this tragic incident.
The vehicle involved was described as a tipper towing a trailer and was last seen on Jedda Road, Prestons, heading towards the M7.
Eddie was part of a breeding program and had been accredited as a General Purpose Police Dog in December 2024.

Superintendent Julian Griffiths expressed that the loss of Eddie is a “very devastating blow” to his team.
He commented, “Police dogs and their handlers share a unique bond: they live together, train together, and work hard together. Police dogs exemplify the very best of the Force; General Purpose dogs are highly intelligent, rigorously trained, and dedicated to working collaboratively with their handlers to ensure public safety.
“The loss of any Police Dog is deeply distressing for our unit, but Eddie’s loss is particularly poignant as he has been part of the unit since his birth. I am certain that his absence will be felt profoundly within the Police family and the wider community of NSW,” Supt Griffiths added.
Police stated that an investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances surrounding Eddie’s death.
