Breaking News: Edo State House of Assembly Removes Hon Natasha Osawaru Irobosa as Minority Leader

In a significant political shift, the Edo State House of Assembly has officially removed Hon Natasha Osawaru Irobosa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from her position as Minority Leader. This decision follows the defection of four PDP lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a critical moment in the state’s political landscape.

Hon Irobosa, who is notably recognized for her relationship with Nigerian music icon Tuface Idibia, was ousted alongside the Majority Leader, Hon Charity Aiguobarueghian, and Chief Whip, Hon Yekini Idaiye.

During a plenary session, Speaker of the House, Hon Blessing Agbebaku, announced these leadership changes, referencing a letter from the acting APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe. This letter confirmed that the PDP had lost its majority status, prompting the reshuffle.

In the aftermath of these changes, Hon Ibhamawu Jonathan Aigbokhan (APC, Esan West) has been appointed as the new Majority Leader. Meanwhile, Hon Addeh Emakhu Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I) and Hon Lecky Hussein Mustapha (APC, Etsako West I) will now serve as Deputy Majority Leader and Chief Whip, respectively.

Despite the reshuffle, the Speaker, Agbebaku, along with his deputy, Hon Maria Edeko, both of the PDP, have retained their leadership roles in the House. However, Agbebaku acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding their tenure amidst the evolving political dynamics.

“The PDP leadership in the state will present its nominees for principal officers to the House,” Agbebaku stated, indicating a proactive approach to the changing circumstances.
