A missing woman in the UK has been found alive and well after 52 years, resolving one of the longest-running cold case disappearances in the country.

Sheila Fox disappeared at the age of 16 from Coventry in the West Midlands in 1972. Initially, police believed she may have left the area, but she was never located.

West Midlands police renewed their appeal after Christmas, aiming to find Fox by releasing an old black-and-white photograph from around the time of her disappearance.

Within hours, a member of the public contacted the police, helping them track down Fox.

Authorities confirmed that Fox was safe and well, residing in another part of the UK.

This case marks a positive conclusion to one of the oldest missing person investigations in the region.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have found Sheila after more than five decades,” said Detective Sergeant Jenna Shaw.

“We meticulously examined every piece of evidence available and managed to locate a photo of Sheila.

“As a small team of officers, I want to commend the efforts of DC Shaun Reeve, who successfully resolved this case with assistance from the community.

“Every missing person has a story, and their families and friends deserve to understand what happened to them and, hopefully, be reunited with them.”
