Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State presented certificates and office staff to 66 newly appointed traditional rulers on Saturday.
During a significant speech at the event held at Government House in Owerri, Governor Uzodimma urged the new traditional rulers to serve their communities with dedication and to treat their subjects in a manner that pleases God.
He emphasized that they should not view their subjects as subordinates, but rather exemplify the values of honesty, peace, and justice in their leadership roles.
The governor also cautioned against rulers who operate from afar, vowing to revoke the staff of office from anyone who fails to fulfill their duties.
Uzodimma encouraged the traditional rulers to consider themselves integral parts of the government and as ambassadors at the community level.
“You are recognized to support local government chairmen and counselors to ensure that law and order are maintained in our communities,” he stated.
He highlighted their crucial role in maintaining security within their domains, asserting that any traditional ruler who contributes to insecurity would face dethronement.
“If I see that you are not able to manage security in your community, we will change you,” he warned.
“Establish vigilance groups and collaborate with the youth to protect your communities,” he advised.
The governor tasked them with working alongside his administration and cautioned against being used to undermine the government.
According to him, anyone wishing to oppose the government should do so directly.
While assuring the new traditional rulers of his administration’s support for their communities, Uzodimma congratulated them and prayed for divine wisdom to guide their leadership.
