An out-of-control bushfire is currently raging dangerously close to homes in Melbourne‘s east, fueled by erratic winds and extreme heatwave conditions.
A critical Watch and Act warning has been issued for a fire spreading through dense and dry bushland at Dr Ken Leversha Reserve in Montrose, located at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.
The Country Fire Authority is urging residents in Montrose and Kilsyth to prepare for evacuation as strong gusty winds are pushing flames toward homes in the southern and eastern directions.

Homes are located within 50 to 100 metres of the fire in Montrose.
The bushfire ignited around 2 PM today and has since scorched over eight hectares of land.
More than 40 firefighting trucks and three helicopters are actively working at the scene to contain the blaze.
According to Country Fire Authority chief officer Alen Slijepcevic, “Crews are currently establishing containment lines to ensure the safety of properties situated to the south and east of the fire.”
The forecast of strong westerly winds poses a significant concern for firefighters, as it threatens to exacerbate the already challenging conditions.

The Country Fire Authority reports that it is too early to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The entire state of Victoria is under a high fire danger warning, which is expected to remain in effect into tomorrow.
Forecasts indicate that temperatures in Melbourne will drop to 26 degrees tomorrow, with a potential for rain.
