An Idaho man has been arrested for his bizarre attempt to cheat the system by ringing up luxury items as cheap tomato soup at Walmart’s self-checkout kiosk.
On February 2, Dylan Rockwell, 32, was caught trying to pass off a $300 grill as a can of tomato soup. According to Caldwell police, Rockwell admitted to using a ring with a tomato soup barcode, which he scanned while attempting to take more valuable items without paying.
Rockwell now faces charges of felony burglary, and police confirmed they were able to recover the stolen merchandise without any incidents.
“Sorry Mr. Rockwell, your tactics didn’t work this time, but we appreciate your creativity,” remarked Caldwell police chief Rex Ingram. “We know that times are tough, but your ingenuity has landed you some county soup for dinner.”
