Why Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip Failed Me as a Mobile Device

No, the end came for my Flip when it stopped lasting the day and started waking me up at night. The battery is constantly dying faster than it should, and ever since the last big software update, the sleep and do-not-disturb modes no longer block notification sounds.

My Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 takes its last bow.

As we anticipate the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 this July, it promises to be a notable upgrade over my current Z Flip 5. Reports suggest it will feature a slightly larger battery compared to the Flip 6, which itself had an improvement over the Flip 5, along with a significantly larger outer screen.

However, I can’t wait several more months. After a year and a half with my Flip, I’ve reached my limit.

To clarify, my device has never cracked, nor has it displayed the dreaded green line of doom at the crease. While the factory screen protector began to peel, a $30 fix at uBreakiFix resolved that issue.

The real problem arose when my phone started to struggle with battery life. It began waking me up at night due to its constant notifications. The battery drains much quicker than expected, and since the last major software update, the sleep and do-not-disturb modes have failed to silence notifications effectively. I can’t seem to resolve these problems, and the unique features of the Flip aren’t enough to justify the hassle anymore.

Regarding battery performance: I’ve seen my phone hit 80 percent by 9 AM, only to be on the brink of dying by 9 PM. I hardly use my phone during work hours, yet it feels like a constant struggle to keep it alive.
