Inter Miami’s Pursuit of a World Cup Winner Ahead of the Club World Cup

Inter Miami is poised to enhance its squad featuring Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez by potentially adding a World Cup-winning midfielder ahead of the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Club World Cup, scheduled for June, has become a significant focus for Messi, Suarez, and Inter Miami this season. To enhance their chances in this prestigious tournament, the Florida-based club may secure a talented midfielder before the competition begins.

Fans have raised concerns about the Major League Soccer (MLS) regulations that limit Inter Miami’s ability to assemble a competitive squad for the Club World Cup. However, an exceptional market opportunity may enable the club to make a notable addition to its roster.

According to reports from RMC Sport, Inter Miami has emerged as a prime destination for Paul Pogba, who is eager to return to professional soccer. The 2018 World Cup champion will be eligible to play following his suspension, which concludes on Tuesday, March 11th, allowing Inter Miami the opportunity to swiftly secure his services.

Pogba has been spotted at Inter Miami matches at Chase Stadium, including games against Charlotte FC and Atlanta United last year. His family already resides in Miami, which could significantly influence his decision to revive his career with the MLS team.

The French midfielder was recently seen at Inter Miami’s MLS season opener, where he reunited with co-owner David Beckham, with whom he shares a strong friendship. With the MLS transfer window open until April 23rd and Leonardo Campana’s recent exit, Inter Miami now has a Designated Player (DP) slot available, providing them the flexibility to offer Pogba a lucrative contract.

Limited European Options for Pogba

After the reduction of his ban, Pogba has been linked with various clubs, but few viable options have surfaced in Europe. The most notable interest has come from Olympique de Marseille, with both the club’s president and coach Roberto De Zerbi expressing their admiration for the midfielder.

However, Ligue 1 regulations prevent clubs from signing free agents during the second half of the season, posing a significant challenge for Marseille. Moreover, as European clubs approach critical phases in their campaigns, signing a player who has not played competitively since 2023 presents substantial risks.

During a Twitch stream with AmineMaTue, Pogba addressed speculation about reuniting with his friend Memphis Depay at Brazilian side Corinthians. When asked about this possibility, Pogba chuckled and stated: “Nothing, zero! I play for the love of soccer”.

Despite his comments, a move to Brazil seems unlikely. The MLS and the Saudi Pro League are currently viewed as the most realistic destinations for Pogba. Considering his connections to Miami, the star-studded roster of Inter Miami, and the club’s proximity to his home, a transfer to the Florida club appears increasingly plausible.
