In a recent update, Microsoft has announced a delay in the release of its highly anticipated Fable game, now set to launch in 2026. Initially projected for 2025, Xbox Game Studios chief Craig Duncan shared this news during an episode of the official Xbox podcast.
“We previously announced the date for Fable as 2025, but we are giving it more time and it will now ship in 2026,” Duncan stated. “While I know this may not be the news everyone wanted to hear, I assure you it will be worth the wait. I have complete confidence in the Playground team.”
Last year, fans were treated to early gameplay footage of Fable during the Xbox summer showcase, which highlighted the game’s characters and story. The narrative revolves around a hero named Humphry, who must come out of retirement as a mysterious figure from his past threatens the very existence of Albion. Microsoft also shared additional gameplay footage recently.
Developed by Playground Games, renowned for the Forza Horizon series, this latest installment of Fable promises stunning visuals and engaging gameplay. Duncan noted, “What they’re bringing to the Fable franchise combines the breathtaking visuals expected from Playground Games with the signature British humor, all set in the most beautifully realized version of Albion to date.”
Looking ahead, Microsoft has an exciting year planned for Xbox, featuring titles such as South of Midnight, id Software’s Doom: The Dark Ages, The Outer Worlds 2, and possibly even Gears of War: E-Day.
